Betty Bingham

A memorial service for Betty Jean Bingham, 81, of Coos Bay, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the First Christian Church, 2420 Sherman Ave., in North Bend. Pastor David Brown will officiate. Cremation will be at Ocean View Memory Gardens Crematory in Coos Bay, with inurnment at Sunset Memorial Park, 63060 Millington Frontage Road, in Coos Bay.

Betty was born March 10, 1925, in North Bend, the daughter of Grover and Frances (Burner) Richardson. She died Jan. 31, 2007, in Coos Bay.

She was a graduate of Marshfield High School, and married Earl Bingham on July 27, 1946, in Eastside. He preceded her in death in 1962.

Betty worked as a bookkeeper for North Bend Medical Center for many years. An accomplished musician, she was the church organist at the First United Methodist Church in Coos Bay for many years and, more recently, the First Christian Church in North Bend. Betty was a co-founder of the On Broadway Theater and an active member of the Little Theatre on the Bay for more than 28 years. She also was a member of a local ladies pinochle card club for more than 50 years. Betty enjoyed traveling to the Holy land, Europe, and as an avid golf fan, St. Andrews. She loved spending time with her family and extended family of friends.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Hankwitz and husband, Dave, of Coos Bay, Gary Bingham and wife, Jenny, of Madras, and Wendy Helling and husband, Keith, of Lakeview; brother, Duane Richardson of Tacoma, Wash.; sister, Barbara Kerbrat of Concord, N.H.; five grandchildren, Peter and Nathan Hankwitz, Sherry Short, Joann Bingham and Elizabeth Helling; and five great-grandchildren, Hayley, Brooklynn and Kendall Paige Hankwitz, Brian Nelson and Justin Short; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Little Theatre on the Bay, 2100 Sherman Ave., North Bend, OR 97459.
