Services
for Robert Addison Yantis, 84, of North Bend, will be held at 2 p.m.
on Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Masonic Hall, Fourth and Market, in Coos
Bay.
He was born Oct. 11, 1919, to Edna (Rizor) Yantis and Grover L. Yantis,
in Baker. In 1924, he moved with his family to Klamath Falls, where
Robert attended grade school and high school. He enrolled at Oregon
State College in 1938 and was called up with the National Guard on Sept.
16, 1940. He served in the European Theater as a radar/searchlight unit
chief with the rank of staff sergeant.
After returning home in 1945, he enrolled again at Oregon State and
in 1951, graduated with a degree in forest engineering. In June 1947,
he married Dorothea Whiteline in Klamath Falls. Robert worked briefly
for Weyerhaeuser Company in North Bend before joining the Bureau of
Land Management. He retired in 1979.
Robert was a life member of Blanco Lodge, No. 48, and all the York Rite
bodies. He served as presiding officer of all these Masonic groups and
was a member of KYCH. He was a past associate guardian of Bethel 68
Job's Daughters; a past member of the Advisory Council Edward B. Beatty
Chapter, Order of DeMolay; past patron of Doric Chapter, No. 58, Order
of Eastern Star; past royal patron, Arago Court, No. 31, Order of the
Amaranth; and past president of High Twelve.
Robert was an elder in the Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church in Empire
before it closed. He also was the charter president of the Madison Avenue
PTA. He was very active in Little Theatre on the Bay and received awards
as best supporting actor and man of the year.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothea of North Bend; sister,
Doris Miller of Edmunds, Wash.; brother and sister-in-law, Delbert and
Mary Jane Yantis of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother, Clifford Yantis of
Klamath Falls; daughter and her husband, Aletta Yantis-Shores and Douglas
Shores of Coos Bay; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Terry Potter
of Olympia, Wash.; daughter, Terri Yantis of Coos Bay; grandchildren,
Geoffrey and Stephanie Sleeper-Spady of Redlands, Calif., Erin Schable
of Coos Bay, Elora Yantis of Coos Bay, Cora Potter and Steve Short of
Portland, Joseph and Shelley Potter of Spokane, Wash., Jason Denton
of North Bend and Richard and Chastity Denton of Coos Bay; and seven
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers and brother-in-law.

choice.
